Martinez If you are someone who needs a fifty inch screen to watch movies on, this machine is not for you. If you are someone with a Blu-Ray collection who travels and wants a way to watch them on the move, keep going. The DMP-B500 has a 10.1 inch screen that operates on a 1024x600 screen resolution. The DMP-B500 does NOT have a native 1080P screen. It is, however, an excellent screen for it's size. Colors are vivid and accurate, though if you're like me, you will have to turn down the color saturation. The default settings run a hair deeper to the red then they should, but it is easily fixed. There is no ghosting in the screen, nor are there artifacts or dark 'bricking'. While the screen is in operation there is no glare in a dark room, while still being easily visible in sunlight and room light. The built in speakers won't drown out a room, but are easily heard with surprising depth and quality. You wont' be rewinding constantly to hear what someone said. The DMP-B500 only has one headphone jack, however, so if you have to share it in a car or on a plane you will have to buy a headphone splitter. The DMP-B500 will start a dvd instantly, though most Blu-Ray discs require five to fifteen seconds to go from main menu to movie. Native firmware will run every movie on the market at the moment, however there have been two firmware updates since I purchased my DMP-B500. Avatar and Alice in Wonderland both play flawlessly as does the rest of my collection. Of the fifty odd Blu-Ray I own, none have had any issues being played on the DMP-B500. On a full battery charge you will get three hours from the DMP-B500, with headphones plugged in and the screen's brightness turned down, you can get four hours. The DMP-B500 can connect to any HD television with an HDMI cable. While connected to the television, the DMP-B500 transmits at full 1080/24P with excellent video and sound quality. The DMP-B500 can play Div-x .AVI files. However these files can NOT be placed on an SD card. Div-X files must be burned to disk or played off a standard usb thumb-drive. I have not yet convinced my DMP-B500 to read Div-x files from an external hard drive. The DMP-B500 can play MPeG2 files from the SD card. Fair warning, to activate the DMP-B500's Div-X capabilities you MUST burn the activation file to a cd or dvd. The activation file will not play via usb thumb drive, nor SD card. .JPG files are supported, though the support if 'iffy'. Pictures taken from your camera in .JPG will show on your DMP-B500, but the machine 'sorts' the photos for you. A pictures of your nieces birthday party will find its way from the rest of the party photos and straight into those of your vacation. As of you, I don't know how the DMP-B500 sorts photos, as they aren't sorted alphabetically by name, nor by capture date. MP3's play from burned disk, SD card, and USB drive. I have had no problems with any of my MP3's, those purchased from I-tunes and Amazon both worked fine. Internet video is an interesting feature. You can watch Youtube, Amazon movies on demand, and Netflix via the built in Wifi adapter or the built in ethernet jack. So far all I have tried have played, but Youtube videos are not played in full screen. Instead they get roughly half the screen on the right side of the display. Picasso photo albums, Pandora internet radio, Fox Sports, and a weather network are additional internet features with more being added all the time. Firmware is updated either via cd or the built in ethernet connection. Updating the firmware takes around ten minutes. The only true negatives about the DMP-B500 I can offer are the design and the price. The screen does not clam-shell, therefore it can't be tossed into a backpack as the screen is ALWAYS exposed. You need a dedicated carrying case to move the DMP-B500 around. Also, you must lift the screen to change

Very pleased...4.5 stars/5 By Cardio DR I have had this one for about 2 weeks.... this replaces a bigger 1080i Sony HDR video camera (built in 30 gb spinning hard drive) that we purchased may 2007 for $1600 AND LOST... For this current price, this can't be beat. I have had the chance to review both the movie quality and photo quality and still pleased., although it may be slightly inferior to my previous camera. IT would not be fair to compare this camera to my older Sony, (kind of like comparing a nice point and shoot camera to one that that is an SLR)... However, I would still buy this one for the price point.. Things that are different are: Image stabilization.... Althought this one is so bad, it is not as forgiving as the Sony....partly because it is smaller, weighs much less and less likely to use 2 hands as we were with the Sony. Compared to the Sony, this one is faster, more responsive and faster to download to and from. The biggest thing about this camera is that this is a "point and shoot" video camera and not something that you will be using to film weddings professionally. For us, that was our primary use. This camera does take gorgeous 1080i movies, however, the image quality is lessened indoors or under suboptimal lighting. You can take photos while shooting video, however, the picture resolutions are downgraded during this and we are starting to avoid doing this. The Flash memory card is great!, the speed at which it "comes to life" is great. The camera has a feature called Ique or something, that basically "optimizes" settings for those that don't know how, or too lazy. As of now, we leave this setting on all the time. The battery life is about 90-100 minutes... We charge it every 3-4 days. Although there is no lens cover and it is "scratch resistant" this is something that I am a little leary of, and I can see how it can get scratched. I was thinking about the angle at which the camera is set up, It is okay, it doesn't take much to get used to, but in playing around, I find that the if the camera was flipped 180 degrees, this would be optimal and even more ergonomic (if it were like a pistol grip)... It is not really feasible to use it like this, because the movies come out upside down and the view screen is on the wrong side... Finally, although this has a high megapixel still photo, when I was using the 12.0 megapixel setting, I found it almost impossible to keep it still enough to prevent blur.. I end up using it on 6mp...I am satisfied with these photos. One last thing, when i went to repurchase this new camera, at first I was really interested in getting one "with a bigger built in hard drive" than my previous Sony with the 30 gb hard drive.... I think this was faulty thinking...if you had a larger hard drive.. you would be more likely to not download (or backup) the movies and risk losing them if something happened to your camera. (we lost 2 months of photos of a newborn from the last camera)... Second, I would strongly urge you to consider flash memory camera, either a SSD or flash based media. because of speed, battery and size and safety.. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Don't know yet By Alan Edwards Incredibly small! Good quality. Does NOT have a hand strap, uses a little wrist strap instead. It makes holding it much tougher and getting to the buttons as well. Lots of settings up to FULL 1080p, future proofing your purchase. I still have an excellent Sony MiniDV which can shoot standard definition in a 16:9 format and still think think AVCHD has a ways to go. If you have a bluray burner and player, then it's a no brainer. For anything else the importing, editing and burning/archiving process, is a chore. And we all thought technology was going to free us! It seems each iteration gets more complex and time consuming. Nice machine but I still don't know. Let me know if you have software where you can

Jaw Dropping Quality for it's size + HUGE WOW Factor By Krishna Polina I happened to own Canon HV20 Camcorder briefly until I saw this camcorder with my friend. I loved everything about HV20 except it's cheap(call it ugly) design and build quality. Also, I didn't like the concept of tape anymore after having over 30+ MiniDVs that are collecting dust. I've owned a MiniDV Camcorder now for over 8 years and it still works great. But, I could never transfer 30+ tapes I have taken so far to any media except the first one. Why? Tape based vs Flash Media The DV Tape capture is a nightmare process. Takes forever to capture to PC, edit and burn DVD. With flash media, I can delete any scene I don't like right on camcorder and later don't have to deal with it while editing. Also, when I shoot silent scenes (which is very rare), I can hear the tape motor sound. I noticed this even on the new Canon HV20. Also, sometimes we want to delete some scenes we recorded earlier on the tape. That is practically useless on tape as that space on tape is wasted. With flash memory, you delete a scene and the memory available increases right away. Some reviewers say Flash memory is expensive. While true it can't be too expensive for someone who sheds 1K on a camcorder. Moreover, their prices are falling faster than the real-estate prices in Northern Virginia. You can get couple of 4GBs and one Portable Storage Device(PSD) like WOLVERINE DATA FlashPac 7-in-1 Memory Card Reader and 60 GB Storage Device 7060 and you are done with buying any more flash memory. PSD can also be used as a backup device for all your photo and video collection if can buy HyperDrive Space, 160 GB Memory Card Backup Storage Device for 18 Types of Memory Cards. Now to the video quality: I wasn't expecting CX7 to be as good as HV20 because of its miniature size. But, I was thrilled to see both look exactly the same. At least to my eyes when I blew the picture in my Home Theater with 12 feet wide screen played from Panasonic AX100U Front Projector. I played CX7 by inserting the memory stick in my PS3. I tested some shots taken in dark conditions and in bright outdoors. Both are great camcorders. I saw no noise in either of them with basic indoor lighting from recessed lights. I also shot with my Old Mini DV Camcorder in Standard format and it looked terrible on 12 foot screen as expected. I felt it was worth the upgrade after comparing all three. Audio: CX7 shines here. It was able to create a surround sound effect when a flight flew above me when I was shooting. That made the recording feel more realistic. Also, CX7 definitely has the advantage of not having a motor running close to it like the tape based models have. The digital pictures are also of decent quality. I would say as good as any compact 4 to 5+ MP cameras out there. Sony did a wonderful job with the design of this camcorder and it's great they didn't skip on active shoe that can be used to attach external video light/flash and microphone. What should Sony do to their next model? I think they can increase the camcorder size slightly and add a viewfinder. Must buy accessories: SanDisk 4 GB Ultra II Memory Stick PRO Duo (SDMSPDH-4096-901, Retail Package) Sony NPFH70 H Series Actiforce Hybrid InfoLithium Battery for most Sony Camcorders Sony HVL-HL1 Video Light (3-Watt) for DCR-PC55, DCR-SR80, SR100, SR200, HDR-HC3, HC5, HDR-UX1 & UX5 Camcorders Sony BCTRP Battery Charger for DCR-HC, DCR-DVD, HDR-HC3, HC5, HC7, HDR-UX5 & UX7 Camcorders Mini HDMI cable from Monoprice dot com which costs around $6. I will try to update my review after I shoot with it for couple of weeks on my India Trip! Updated after my return from India Trip. First, thanks to amazon for price matching my purchase with the new price which is $60 less than what I paid almost 5 weeks back. Now, my opinion about the camcorder after extension use in India. I recorded over 3 hours

More of a Toy than a Camera By giantnflfan The charging system already stopped charging correctly and the other users are correct. You move too quick you Blurrr.. I'm using the 720P mode which does help but a tri-pod should be used...color is a little off but for the price I paid I can't complain..photos are only ok as well but the 3inch screen is really great and the camera is all plastic so very light. Luckly my remote controll uses the same exact battery which I bought for 6 bucks (2PK) else where and works great to use as a charger for the camera..I'm using a SNANDISK III 8GB class 6 SD card which works fine. I did get very Lucky and bought the camera for 1/2 of the current sale price here at Amazon..currently 208.70 - Best price around right now! - I need to find out why the charging system is off or it could be that the camera just uses the battery even when Idle? I'll let the camera sit and the battery is less 2-3 bars in 2-3 days? I do like how easy it is to use the camera and the ability to use the cable to connect the HDMI port on TV's to see and hear the video just made.( Have the Black DVR-840XHD for 2 months now - camera came out in Late march 09) 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Vivitar By Thomas Mcclure All rite the Vivitar Camcorder is a nice looking Unit with one problem! The picture Quality is great out side, not inside where the lite is dim. The picture is blurry and the HD Video is very grainy. The only way to fix the problem with the picture in low lite, is to get a tripod.... But that will not make the Video any better, But the tripod will make the Video Great outside, Not inside. 1 of 4 people found the following review helpful. no as expected By Diomedes Ventura I'm very dissapointed, 'cause I was thinking in a better product (Vivitar) is almost a fiasco. Most helpful customer reviews 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Lumix GH1 By Thomas Moody A very surprising camera! It's compares favorably to my Canon 5D Mark II and 7D. The small size, even with the G Vario 7mm lens makes it an easy choice to grab for "what if" situations. The MENU give such great choices in both stills and videos. Some of the video shot with this camera have been included in sequences shot with the above cameras plus Sony's CineAlta cams. Many delightful surprises with the LUMIX have made this one of my favorites. For the price HIGHLY recommended. See all 1 customer reviews...
